Had a little bit of time today so I thought i'd drop you guys a note.

School has been fine so far. I guess the whole culture here is really different... it's more a combination of St Nicks and GYLC. Very clique-ish but people are generally nice. It's very difficult to 'integrate' properly especially since I'm new and Asian. People kinda talk to you casually, asking you how you find school and all and then walk off and forget you the next time they see you, especially when they're with their own group of friends. Thankfully, I've been able to hang out a little with my friend Jasmine's group of friends although I do feel as if I'm being intrusive sometimes.

There are quite a number of things to do here. At the moment, I'm considering College Magazine or Photography Club as they both happen to land on the same day, Tap Dance, Cookery Club or Young Enterprise (again same day but there's a selection process for Young Enterprise soo i don't think I'll get in because of my accent.. paah) and the Tennis club.. I would also really like to one of the Community Links activities which involves cooking breakfast for the homeless on Sunday mornings! Wish me luck in finding some tennis kaki soon. Hahah. I'm going for tennis coaching on Sunday mornings with a friend but other than that, I haven't played much lately..to my great disappointment. The hockey trials, by the way, were a disaster. All the little girls could hit so well and as you know, my skills are now rusty after a year of not playing...sooo I was totally crap and it was an AWFUL afternoon. I think I spoke like...less than ten words in those two hours. Haha. I also had to put on a temporary gumshield/mouthguard which was really really gross because it induced ...some kinda puking sensation and I couldn't breathe properly. All very silly. OH, and I've finally got my harp lesson settled and I'm going to do Speech and Drama lessons to help my English. Haha. And very probably extra French as well. Everyone here seems to do a gezillion things! One of my friends just left for two weeks to act in a play in London..haha. Ahh well.

Accomodation-wise, my room is really small compared to the other rooms but it's not too bad. It certainly is better than the room we stayed in at Manhattan College! Haha. The bad thing about my room is that it faces a slope... it's not exactly underground without windows(people exaggerate, I found) but it's just a little underground as the house is on a hill and our rooms are all kinda below ground and pretty dark. Apart from the terrible sighting of an insect in my room when I first arrived, I guess it's been pretty cosy. It's also just beside the toilet...soo that's a big plus. The food here's not too bad either though people seem to hate it, for some reason.

And on to the topic of work. Maths is insanely simple...guess what we're doing now- remainder and factor theorem. haha. I feel like a genius in class. Chemistry is a headache because I haven't done it for almost a year and I have problems even doing simple mole calculations. The standard of chemistry here is quite high as well..oddly enough. I'm ambivalent towards History. We're doing revolutions - The French revolution, the american revolution and the english civil wars. We have 3 different teachers, one for each. Haha. I like the first two a lot but the english revolution's my worst nightmare... my classmates were like 'vomitting' the names of queens and kings and I sat there completely lost. I guess I'll have to do lots of reading up on it! But I really love my French Revolution teacher...she's really really nice and sweet. I'm like her..greatest fan. Haha. We get lots of books to read here... I got 10 Chemistry books, 6 books for History, 3 books for Maths (yes, they call it Maths here but they pronounce it like Cook's 'MAH-ts) and a book for English (more to come). English (they call it English and not literature) is really tough here as I expected. I spent the whole of my weekend writing my two English essays. When you have time, search for the poem 'Sonnet 5 of the series Clearances' by Seamus Heaney. Haha. We had to write a two and a half page long essay on that. I sat for three hours staring at it and then spent another two hours writing it.. I'm suffering from some sort of inertia. I can't seem to start to work... I feel like eating (I ate six bags of chips and one pack of fruit pastilles yesterday while doing the essays!) and sleeping all the time!

I know you're all probably slogging your asses off for your promos now sooo I wish you guys zee best of luck! Send me an email soon to say hi.. :)
